I love a good make over:

the room is transformed just by removing the carpets to exposed the wooden floor (which was then stained dark)removing the hideous curtains and painting the honey coloured wooden staircase white (reflected in the mirror).

Rip up the carpet, paint risers white and stain the treads dark, add a new striped runner
